Special Education

Northwest BOCES serves as the administrative unit for special education services for its five member school districts: East Grand, Hayden, North Park, South Routt and West Grand.

In this role, Northwest BOCES is responsible for the implementation of services for students with disabilities meeting the legal requirements of the Exceptional Children's Education Act (ECEA) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

Northwest BOCES hires staff in a number of areas to provide services to students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).  These service providers work collaboratively with a student’s IEP team and participate in screening, evaluation, program planning, and intervention.  These service areas include, but are not limited to, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy.  Students with vision and hearing impairments are served by specialized teachers in these areas.
