BOCES, or Boards of Cooperative Educational Services, are public organizations that were created by the Colorado Legislature in 1965 to provide shared educational programs and services to school districts. NW BOCES was formed in 1967.
NW BOCES is governed by a board comprised of one board member representing each member school district. These board members are elected to their local school district board, whereas they are appointed by their school board to the BOCES board to serve for the same term.
An important component of NW BOCES governance is the superintendents’ advisory council, which is required to meet regularly with the executive director and make recommendations to the NW BOCES board regarding BOCES’s actions, programs and activities.
