Upcoming Professional Learning Opportunities
K-3 READ Act Training Support Cohort (7.5 contact hours or 0.5 continuing education graduate credit)
Format: Virtual
Dates/Times:Tuesdays on 3/1/22, 4/12/22, and 5/17/22 all from 4:30 - 6:00 pm
This course is designed to provide support to teachers who are participating in the free, online training from the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) that fulfills evidence-based training for teaching reading as a result of changes to the Colorado READ Act in SB 19-199 (PDF). To participate in this course, educators MUST be enrolled in the online, asynchronous training “Building a Strong Foundation: Developing Early Literacy Skills'' offered by CDE. This course DOES NOT fulfill the K-3 READ Act requirements. It is meant to offer support to educators who will complete these expectations through the CDE course. Considering that effective professional learning features opportunities for making meaning with peers, application to teaching practice, and reflection, this cohort will offer educators the opportunity to do just that - work with peers to process new learning.
Coming in Summer 2022
The CDE approved ELL Pathway will be held in June and July in a virtual, condensed format. Registration will be available in early 2022, but the dates for the meetings have been set for those needing to note them in their calendars: Wednesday 6/1/22, Mondays 6/6/22, 6/13/22, 6/20/22, 6/27/22, 7/11/22 all from 4:30 - 6:30 pm.
If you would like more information about this licensing requirement, please navigate to CDE's website for more details: English Learner PD Requirements.
Dates and times for the mini course to fulfill the 10 hour Special Education and Behavioral Health Licensure Renewal Requirements are yet to be determined but will be set in the next few weeks.
Record of Recertification Contact Hours
Over the last few years, the NW BOCES has moved away from sending individual certificates stating recertification contact hours to a transcript model. CDE accepts these transcripts and they allow for one single document in the license renewal process as opposed to collecting certificates. Follow these instructions to access your transcript. If you need a record of Colorado Mesa continuing education graduate credit, please reach out to CMU directly by following these instructions.
i3 SEED Final Evaluation Report
In January 2015, the NW BOCES received a five-year Investing in Innovation (i3) grant to develop and implement the System for Educator Effectiveness Development (SEED) program—an innovative professional development (PD) system designed to provide geographically isolated educators an impactful tool to improve teacher effectiveness. McREL International (McREL) was contracted by NW BOCES to conduct an independent evaluation of SEED. The purpose of this executive summary is to highlight key findings from the evaluation.
