Increasing Achievement and Growth Grant (aka: SPED Literacy Grant)
This is a three-year grant awarded to Northwest Colorado BOCES by the Colorado Department of Education. The goal of this grant is to improve student achievement in literacy for our students with disabilities in grades K-3 thus decreasing the achievement gap between students with disabilities and their peers.
All NW BOCES districts are participating in this grant: East Grand, West Grand, North Park, South Routt, Steamboat Springs, Hayden, and Moffat. Thank you to the Colorado Department of Education for awarding us this opportunity.

Increasing Achievement and Growth Grant (aka: SPED Literacy Grant) SummaryThe goal of this grant is to improve student achievement in literacy for our students with disabilities in grades K-3 thus decreasing the achievement gap between students with disabilities and their peers. The major strategies and activities proposed to reach this goal include:
1) Collaboration & Ongoing PD Support
- Literacy Grant Coordinator (Beth Melton)
- Regional Literacy Committee (RLC) (Click here to get to RLC Resources)
- School or District Literacy Leads
2) Professional Development
- Brain Research (increase teacher understanding of the neurological processes causing reading disabilities)
- Multi-sensory Methodology (Orton Gillingham and/or Wilson)
- Dual-concept Theory (Lindamood Bell trainings including Seeing Stars and Visualizing/Verbalizing)
- iPad Literacy Interventions
3) Home Literacy
- Professional Development in Home Literacy Curriculum (Motheread)
- Parent Literacy Classes (two 8 week parent literacy classes each year in each district- budget includes stipends for teachers to lead these classes)
4) Technology Integration
- iPads for assessment and intervention
- Amplify Insight (platform for DIBELS Next administration and data analysis)
Total Award: $1,053,710 over three years
