Northwest Colorado BOCES is the recipient of a 2014 US Department of Education i3 (Investing in Innovation) grant.  Click here to see the i3 SEED Grant website. SEED stands for System of Educator Effectiveness Development.  It is an innovative approach to professional development that links PD to the teacher evaluation system using a blending learning format.


There are multiple ways to participate in SEED:


1. Sign-up for a semester-long regional Teacher Learning Community (TLC)
with two face-to-face meetings, ongoing coaching, and approximately one hour per week of on-line collaboration, classroom application, or independent work (3 credits). The fall TLCs run from August-December and the spring TLCs run from January-June.

2. Professional Practice Study with three virtual meetings, ongoing coaching, and approximately 2.5 hours per week of on-line collaboration, classroom application, or independent work (1 credit).  A professional practice study on technology integration will run from January 29th-March 11th.

3. Spend time in the SEED PAK. Don't have time to commit to a semester-long TLC but still want to find high-quality professional development resources aligned with the Teacher Quality Standards?   PAK stands for Personalized Accessible Knowledge.  The PAK has multiple parts:
 
1) The PD Market: a well-vetted interactive library of PD Resources searchable by Teacher Quality Standards with opportunities to complete reflection questions for contact hour recertification credit;‚Äč 
2) The Community Garden: an organic collection of instructional resources and student exemplars searchable by Colorado Academic Standards where teachers can share lesson plans, units, links, etc. Please add your favorite resources to share with your regional colleagues;
3) The SEED Blog: a regular highlight  of an important topic in education and related resources; and 
4) My PAK: a social media type component where you can follow colleagues and see resources they have posted or recommended.

4. Join a Content Development Team (CDT). Content Development Teams work with Innovation Coaches to find and develop the PD content for the SEED PAK and TLC strands. The grant budget includes stipends for this work. Thank you to the Platform and Content Development Teams for their work to date. The educators (approximately 70 so far)  that have come together from across all of our districts to guide the development of this project have been incredibly helpful. The next CDT opportunity will be Summer 2018.

5. Become a SEED Facilitator. SEED Facilitators are working to grow their abilities to facilitate professional learning for their peers and serve as a liaison between their school and the SEED project. This is a year-long commitment and includes a stipend for the work. Click here to find out more.
